Balancing “outstanding experience and overwhelming development speed” (offense) with “the robustness and security of financial infrastructure” (defense).

What we in Engineering take on, at its core, is the balance of “offense” and “defense.” “Offense” is the outstanding user experience that draws customers in and the overwhelming development speed that drives business growth. “Defense” is, as financial infrastructure entrusted with money, the robustness of never going down and never being off by a single yen, and the security that thoroughly prevents fraud and risk. In many organizations these two become a trade-off, but through design grounded in deep domain understanding, an automated verification foundation, and a development process that fully leverages AI, we multiply offense and defense together. Rather than letting defense shackle offense, we believe that only beyond achieving both does a financial product no one has realized before come into being.

What We Do

From the UPSIDER corporate card, to “Shiharai.com” for paying invoices by card, to the lending domain of “UPSIDER Capital,” and even the external provision of our card infrastructure—we handle the design, development, and operation of every financial product that supports the business. From front-end to back-end, the payment platform that processes card transactions, and the data infrastructure, we cover the full technology stack in-house. We take on a wide range, from launching new products to pursuing the scalability, reliability, and security that support rapidly growing transaction volumes.

Why We Exist

Our reason for being is to realize UPSIDER's mission—“creating a world-class financial platform that supports challengers”—through the power of technology. The challengers we mean are not limited to startups. From growth companies expanding their business, to Japan's leading large enterprises, to the public sector that underpins society—we want to create a world where every person and organization trying to move forward never has to give up a challenge because of financial constraints. We make experiences that were impossible with existing finance the new normal, through the power of software.

How We Work

Our style is to work closely with the business and management, thinking together from “what to build” and “what to do.” We make technical decisions grounded in deep understanding of the finance and payments domain, balancing speed and quality. The team is steadily growing, and—taking automation and the use of AI as a given—we keep building a development structure where each person can focus on creating essential value even as the organization grows larger.
